Early Diagnosis and Battle

At the age of thirteen months, RaceTrack Engineering Founder Dave Dusick faced a major health challenge when he was diagnosed with an incurable cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma. This rare cancer affected one in a million children at the time, and survival rates were nearly non-existent. Dusick was given only a 50% chance of living six months. Despite these daunting odds, Dusick's passion for motorsports blossomed from a young age, providing a glimmer of hope during his medical journey.

Life at Riley

Dusick's journey led him to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he would spend the next twenty-four months undergoing a series of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. Known as the "#1 Chemo Kid," Dusick showed resilience and courage throughout his treatments at Riley. His battle with cancer defined much of his early childhood as he fought to overcome the illness, relying on the care of the medical team, support from family and friends, and his own determination.

Overcoming the Odds

Dusick's journey toward recovery was supported by the exceptional care at Riley Hospital, a strong network of loved ones, and his own unwavering faith. By the summer of 1980, he achieved a significant milestone when he was declared clear of all signs of cancer. This remarkable recovery set the stage for Dusick's future achievements and continued involvement in motorsports, serving as a testament to his strength and resilience.

Through turning his adversity into strength, Dusick has become a recognizable figure in many professional and social communities. Although many may not know his story, Dusick's impact is widely felt, and he is known in many circles. He and the "IKDD Nation" aim to leverage his recognition to create positive endeavors that benefit current and future families suffering from life-altering childhood illnesses.
